Prep, what to expect and aftercare · Fort Myers, FL

How do I prepare for a Hydra Spa facial, and what do I do afterward? Before: pause retinol and acids for 48 hours, avoid sunburn and arrive with clean skin. After: wear SPF 30 or higher, keep skin hydrated and skip saunas, heavy sweating and strong actives for 24 to 48 hours. Every facial has its own guide below. Reviewed by Kira Tia, Licensed Esthetician (FL FS946982).

One week before

  • Avoid sunburn and tanning, including tanning beds and long beach days without SPF.
  • Skip at-home skin devices such as dermarolling or cleansing brushes.

In the days before

  • Pause retinol, retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs on your face.
  • Do not shave your face the day of your visit.

The day before

  • Drink plenty of water and get a good night of sleep.
  • Do not try any new skincare product.

Day of your visit

  • Arrive with clean skin if you can. Kira cleanses your skin anyway.
  • Come five minutes early for your consult. Remove contact lenses and skip heavy makeup.
  • Bring a list of your skincare products and any medicines.

Tell Kira before you book

Mention any of these when you book so Kira can confirm the visit is suitable and adjust or skip a step:

  • Pregnancy or trying to conceive
  • A pacemaker, an implanted electronic device or metal implants in the face
  • Epilepsy or a history of seizures
  • Isotretinoin or Accutane in the last 6 months, or other prescription skin medicines
  • Facial injectables or fillers in the last 2 weeks, or any recent facial procedure
  • Active infection, cold sores, open sores, sunburn or a rosacea or eczema flare
  • Allergies, especially to skincare ingredients, and any sensitivity that day

Aftercare for any Hydra Spa facial

  1. 1Right after your visit — Kira applies sunscreen and writes your simple home plan. Light pinkness is common and usually fades within a few hours.
  2. 2Tonight — Cleanse gently, then use a simple moisturizer. Skip strong actives, scrubs and masks tonight.
  3. 3The next 24 to 48 hours — Wear SPF 30 or higher every morning and reapply outdoors. Avoid saunas, hot yoga, hot tubs, heavy sweating and pools or the ocean. Keep makeup light, ideally mineral, for the first day. Do not pick or scrub.
  4. 4Days 3 to 7 — Bring retinol and exfoliating acids back slowly, one at a time. Keep skin hydrated and keep up your daily SPF in the Florida sun.
  5. 5Around week 4 — Rebook about every 4 weeks, or sooner before an event, to keep skin looking its best.
