What is a facial ultrasound?
It is a smooth, paddle-shaped handpiece that vibrates at a very high frequency. Your esthetician glides it over a layer of serum on the face and neck. It stays on the surface of the skin, and it is a cosmetic step used in a facial, not a medical ultrasound.

Does it hurt?
No. It feels like a soft hum with mild warmth. Tell your esthetician if anything feels uncomfortable and we will adjust.
Is this the same as medical ultrasound or HIFU?
No. This is a gentle surface handpiece used with serums in a cosmetic facial. It does not reach deep tissue, and Lumina is a licensed esthetician studio, not a medical spa.
Who should skip it?
Skip it if you are pregnant, have an implanted electronic device, or have an active skin infection. Tell us about your health history at booking, and we will tailor your visit.
How long does it take?
It adds about 10 minutes to a facial.
Can I have it with my current Lumina facial?
Yes. We already use ultrasound-based steps in several facials, and this handpiece will extend those options once the new machine arrives.
