Treatment Care
What should you do before and after a facial or wax? Before: arrive with clean skin, skip retinoids, acids and scrubs for 48 hours, and avoid sun exposure and waxing on the area. After: cleanse gently, moisturize, wear SPF 30+, and pause exfoliants, heat, sweat and picking for 24–48 hours. Every Lumina service below has its own printable guide with the exact timeline — written by our licensed estheticians in Fort Myers.
Everything to do before and after each treatment — printable pre-visit and post-visit care guides for every service, plus at-home care between visits.
How do I prepare for a facial, and what should I avoid afterward?
48 hours before: stop retinol, exfoliating acids, scrubs and at-home devices; no waxing, tanning or sunburn on the area; arrive makeup-free if you can (we cleanse anyway). The day of: come a few minutes early for your consultation, mention any medications, allergies or recent products, and tell us if you have an event coming up. 24–48 hours after: gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30+; skip saunas, hot yoga, heavy workouts, swimming pools and direct sun; no picking, no new products, and no exfoliants or retinoids until your guide says so. Waxing: hair should be about ¼ inch; afterward avoid heat, friction and tight clothing for 24 hours and begin gentle exfoliation on day 3 to prevent ingrowns. Our guides below give the service-specific version, and the 10 post-facial skincare tips article covers the why.
Most clients rebook every 4–6 weeks; memberships from $69/month and packages (save 20%) make that rhythm affordable. Lumina Skin Sanctuary is at 7940 Dani Dr, Suite 135, Room 209, Fort Myers, FL 33966 — Mon–Sat 10 AM–7 PM.

Treatment care — frequently asked questions
What should I not do before a facial?
For 48 hours before, stop retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs and at-home devices, and avoid waxing, tanning beds and sunburn on the area you are having treated. Do not shave the face the day of a facial, and skip heavy makeup if you can. If you are on prescription acne medication or have had a recent cosmetic procedure elsewhere, tell your Lumina esthetician at the consultation so the treatment can be adjusted.
How long after a facial can I wear makeup?
Ideally wait until the next morning, especially after extractions or exfoliation, because freshly treated skin is more permeable. If you must wear makeup the same day, keep it light and mineral-based and use clean brushes. Our Express facials ($55–$75) are designed for minimal redness, so many Fort Myers clients return to work straight after a lunch-break visit.
What is the aftercare for waxing?
For 24 hours avoid heat, sweat, sun, swimming, tight clothing and touching the area; keep it clean with a gentle, fragrance-free wash. From day 3, exfoliate gently two to three times a week and moisturize daily to prevent ingrown hairs. Rebook every 4–6 weeks so hair is about ¼ inch long. Lumina Silk Waxing starts at $20 (lip or chin), $35 brow, $65 full leg; see the full Guide to Waxing.
Can I work out or go in the sun after a facial?
Wait 24 hours for sweaty workouts, saunas and hot yoga, and 48–72 hours before direct sun at the beach or pool, then reapply SPF 30+ every two hours. Heat and sweat increase redness after extractions, and UV on freshly exfoliated skin can trigger uneven pigment, which matters year-round in Southwest Florida.
How often should I come back?
Every 4–6 weeks for most facials, matching the skin's roughly 28-day renewal cycle; acne-prone skin often starts at every 3–4 weeks. Waxing is every 4–6 weeks as well. Lumina memberships (Glow $69/mo, Radiance $139/mo, Luxe $169/mo) and 20%-off packages make a regular rhythm affordable, and new clients save 20% on their first visit with code WELCOME20 at checkout.
Do you offer peels, lasers or LED, and what is the downtime?
No. Lumina Skin Sanctuary is a licensed-esthetician studio in Fort Myers, not a medical spa — we do not perform chemical peels, lasers, microneedling, LED or injectables, so there is no true downtime. Expect at most mild pinkness for a few hours after extraction- or exfoliation-based facials; the care guides above explain what is normal and when to call us.
